Key West First Legal Rum Distillery
105 Simonton Street
Key West and rum have a history dating back to the 1700s. Yet rum distilling in Key West came to a close with the Prohibition. That is, until 2013 when the Conch Republic’s official “adMinister of Rum” Paul Menta opened Key West's First Legal Rum Distillery in the old Coca-Cola bottling plant on Simonton Street. Discover the history and tradition of Chef Distilled Key West rum with free tours and mojito classes daily, with free tastings of rums for adults. Daily except Sundays.

Key West Fishing Tournament
The Key West Fishing Tournament is an eight-month-long, multi-species tournament beginning January 1st and continuing until August 31st. Men, Women, Junior and Peewee anglers are awarded 'Master Angler' and 'Most Releases' titles along with trophies awarded for the heaviest of 33 different species in nine different line classes. All entrants receive certificates noting their weighed and released catches. There is no preregistration and is free to all anglers. Call 305-923-5934 for complete rules and entry.

Annual 4th of July Fireworks
Edward B Knight Pier at Higgs Beach
White Street Pier at Higg’s Beach is the best place on land to watch the Key West 4th of July Fireworks. Or, book a cruise on one of Key West’s many charter vessels and watch the fireworks from the water.

July 4-7
Seventh Annual Key Lime Festival
A wacky talent show, pie-eating and cooking contests and other tasty temptations await Key West visitors during the annual Key Lime Festival. Four days of culinary events for every taste are planned, including favorites from past years like the Key Lime Cocktail Sip & Stroll, and new favorites for Key Lime lovers like The Key Lime Pie Hop.

Inaugural Key West Mermaid Festival
Our crew and mermaid pod are over the waves excited to bring you this three-day weekend event, packed with so many fun and marvelous events. From “Mermaid Meet & Greets” and our “Sunday Funday with Mermaids”, to mermaid vendors with a splash of entertainment and heaps of ocean awareness, dancing under the sea, and much, much more! With activities for the little mermaids and adult mermaids at heart, the Key West Mermaid Festival is an entire island family friendly event welcoming Florida Keys locals and visitors from across all of our oceans!

Mel Fisher Days

Each year a celebration is held to commemorate Mel Fisher’s famous 16-year search for the Spanish galleon Atocha, which led to a $450 million dollar treasure discovery in the waters off Key West. Celebration highlights typically include the chance to explore the Fisher family’s 90-foot working salvage boat J.B. Magruder, behind-the-scenes tours of the family’s private artifact conservation lab, and social events where attendees can mingle with members of the “golden crew” that found the Atocha’s riches.

Hemingway Days
The 39th annual celebration of the legendary author’s work and lifestyle features literary readings, the Running of the Bulls, a short story competition, fishing tournament, 5k Run and Paddleboard Race, Sloppy Joe’s Look-Alike Contest and a birthday “party” commemorating Ernest’s July 21st birthday. July 24-25
MINI Lobster Season
The mini lobster season is always the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July. This year, the mini season falls on July 24th and 25th. Make sure to always verify dates and regulations with Florida Fish & Wildlife at 305-743-2437. It begins at 12:01 am on Wednesday and ends at 12:00 midnight on Thursday. Proper licensing is required.
