Key West Songwriters Festival

The Key West Songwriters Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the world and is known as a career starter for top country talent. The festival has kicked off the careers of household names. In its 29th year, KWSF has grown into a top destination for music lovers who flock to Key West for five days and nights of live music and storytelling from veteran songwriters and the next big hit-makers.

Locals Sunday
The first Sunday of the month offers Monroe County locals FREE admission to all HTA attractions: Old Town Trolley Tours, Conch Tour Train, Ghosts & Gravestones, Sails to Rails, Key West Aquarium, Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum, and Truman Little White House.

May 3-31
Key West Artisan Market
10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Higgs Beach, 1801 White St., near Indigenous Park
Dates: May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31. Local artisans include culinary, textile, jewelry, wood, artists & crafters, curiosities, Local Author’s Nook, live variety show, fresh produce, and lots of great, fresh food. Each week is a different theme focused on island living and local charities. Guests are encouraged to go green and ride bikes. Ample free parking and marked handicapped spots at the park. Please BYOB (bring your own bags).

Visit the family-friendly Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Farm, open from 1 to 3 p.m. Animals include a capybara, possum, sloths, goats, birds, and many more. Visits are free of charge, but donations of cash or fresh produce are always welcome.

Swim Around Key West
Swim Around Key West is a 12.5-mile journey that begins and ends on Higgs Beach. Each swimmer or relay team must have its own support kayak or boat to accompany them around the island. The Powerboat Squadron provides safety along the course. The pristine waters around Key West give swimmers great views of both the land and underwater life.

Rotary 4th of July Picnic & Fireworks

A beloved tradition filled with fun, food, and festivities for the whole family! Enjoy delicious picnic fare, games, and live entertainment as we come together to celebrate Independence Day. The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display over the beautiful Key West waterfront.

Hemingway Days
Various times and locations
Ernest Hemingway look-alikes, writers, anglers, and fans of the late author’s work will gather in Key West for the annual Hemingway Days celebration. The festival honors the legacy of the American literary giant who lived and wrote on the island for most of the 1930s. Events include Saturday’s legendary Hemingway Look-Alike Contest and the wacky Running of the Bulls.

July 29-30
Lobster Mini Season
The Florida lobster sport season, locally dubbed “mini season” for its short two-day time duration, begins at 12:01 am on the last Wednesday of July and ends at midnight Thursday.
